Mission
The mission of The Parish of St. Monica and St. James, Capitol Hill is
to worship God and proclaim Christ's love
through our Anglo-Catholic heritage,
our diversity and inclusiveness,
our individual and collective ministries,
and the world's communities.
Our Vision
The Parish of St. Monica and St. James in the Episcopal Church expresses a vision of the Christian life as both diverse and divine. Our spiritual quest is marked by a balance of respect for tradition and a willingness to grapple with change and debate. We offer renewal of faith through the joy of a living church and the knowledge of transformation through the grace of the Holy Spirit.
As an Anglo-Catholic Episcopal Church, the Parish of St. Monica and St. James is committed to using the two great legacies of the Anglo-Catholic movement -- social justice and worship-centered faith -- to make the Incarnate Word real to a 21st century audience. So often "Anglo-Catholic" is defined solely in terms of unrelenting traditionalism, while social justice roots are de-emphasized or ignored. Our wish at St. Monica and St. James is to recall the activist spirit of our origin and translate that spirit here and now in Washington, D.C.
